Pow-wow – from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A modern pow-wow is a specific type of event where both Native American and non-Native American people meet to dance, sing, socialize, and honor American Indian culture. There is generally a dancing competition, often with significant prize money awarded. Pow-wows vary in length from one day session of 5 to 6 hours to three days. Major pow-wows or pow-wows called for a special occasion can be up to one week long.
The term also has been used to describe any gathering of Native Americans of any tribe, and as such is occasionally heard in older Western movies. The word has also been used to refer to a meeting, especially a meeting of powerful people such as officers in the military. However, such use can also be viewed as disrespectful to Native culture.

Some will tell you to go to a pow wow, if you enjoy it they will show you more. ahhh. Some will say it is to get money only, ahhh. Eyes will tell you, if you have anything in you that you enjoy the true meaning of nature and a spiritual way of life, then go. But I went because I knew (back then called indians) when I grew up. I enjoy the drums, the real songs. I enjoy the nature around me that embraces the sounds of the drums. I watched over 10,000 people in a busy hurry, and I sat down and enjoyed the drums. ahhh with a smile, then of course there is the dancing. I use to enjoy the dancing around a old fire with old friends. I never let my true indian heritage go. But then the gov. started to make them cut their hair, tried to force laws pretaining to the powwows, and made them start being called Native Americans. But then allowed all the people from other countries to call them selves indians. I didnt march it and never will. I dance to my own flute, it is one called the nature of life. go and enjoy, but do try to learn a little before you go.
Next time the wind blows, stop for a second, you never know when ol geronimo might be saying something. see I believe. Not much different than a white or black that believes in spiritual things with their loved ones.
Bless you.
